Hercules and the Stymphalian Birds

A feather made of bronze, as sharp as an arrowhead… Deep in the mountains of Arcadia, a dark lake hides hundreds of fierce birds that eat the farmers' crops and shoot their feathers like arrows. Hercules cannot reach them in the thick forest, until the goddess Athena gives him a very noisy gift.

The sixth of twelve bedtime tales that follow the real Greek myths of the Twelve Labours of Hercules, told in simple words for children aged 5 to 8, with a calm narrator, soft lake and night sounds and a quiet ending for sleep.
