Hercules and the Mares of Diomedes

Far in the cold north, in the land of Thrace, King Diomedes keeps four wild mares chained to mangers of bronze, and they do not eat hay or oats. Hercules sails north with his friends, among them young Abderus, to bring the fierce horses back to Mycenae.

The eighth of twelve bedtime tales that follow the real Greek myths of the Twelve Labours of Hercules, told in simple words for children aged 5 to 8, with a calm narrator, soft sea sounds and a quiet ending under the stars.
